HOMES Act of 2012

Recently, the Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) Act of 2012 was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Reps. David McKinley (R-W.Va.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) introduced their bipartisan bill on March 21, 2012.  If passed, the bill will give incentives of $2,000 to $8,000 for making improvements to your home's energy efficiency in regards to windows, insulation, HVAC units and air sealing.

Executive Director Jay Murdoch of Efficiency First, who announced the the introduction of the act along with Congressmen McKinley and Welch, said this about the bill, "By offering incentives tied back to demonstrated savings, the HOMES Act will be a catalyst and will cause consumers to take action and hire a qualified contractor to make the desired home improvements."

With the energy efficiency tax credits ending in 2011, this new bill is a great incentive for home owners to make improvements to their homes.
